Photographing the birth of my own daughter…

It was the morning of our first major snow here in central KY.  That is the day my second born decided to arrive a week early!  Great timing, right?!  Contractions started at 5am.  Around 8 I informed my husband that we may just be having a baby on this rather snowy morning!  While I’m not actually a Lexington KY Birth Photographer (I specialize in maternity and newborn), there was no way this princess was arriving without me taking birth images!

Snow day!

Once my mom and stepdad arrived to take care of Avi, Chase loaded up the car, I grabbed my camera and we headed out.  The roads were covered, even the major roads in Lexington.  It was a LONG drive to the hospital!

Push, baby, push!

It was nearly 12:30 by the time we got to the hospital.  Just before 4:30, the doctor finally arrived and decided it was already time to push. I told him that I wanted to snap a few birth photos as soon as he delivered her.  When he realized I actually meant that I personally wanted to capture the images, he gave me a smile and said we should do a practice shot.   So that we did and then we pushed.  At 4:34 our sweet pea was born.  Yes, that is right…. THREE pushes later, and we were a family of 4!  I already had my camera in hand, captured the images as best as I could, and then handed the camera to Chase so I could hold my baby girl.

What to name this sweet girl?!

We hadn’t yet agreed on a name for our sweet girl, but Chase decided after watching labor and delivery for the second time, that I could pick any name I wanted!  So, Ainslee Grace it was.  She was born at 4:34pm on January 16, 2018.  She weighed 7 pounds 1 ounce and was 18.25 inches long.  While I can’t technically claim the title of Lexington KY Birth Photographer, I’m certainly glad I captured these images of my sweet pea being brought into this world.  As of now, I’ll stick to newborn photography!  Stay tuned for her first portrait session in the hospital, the Just Born session.
