As a newborn photographer in Lexington, KY, It seems like just yesterday I was styling a session for my own daughter. Yet somehow, as time surely does fly, I’m already taking her 6 month portraits.   Is that even possible??!! I was so busy being a mom of two under two that I never even shared her newborn pictures! So here’s the story….

Do I Dare Try My Own Daughter’s Newborn Portraits?!

“Don’t bother trying to take your own baby’s newborn portraits,” they warned. I heard so many failure stories from loads of other newborn photographers on social media. I hesitated for a moment thinking, “what if they are right?” Newborn portraits are so very special and some of the most important pictures I have of Aviana, my first born.

It sounds silly, but if you have kids you’ll likely agree that you only remember them the way they currently are. When you look back at portraits from the past, you don’t remember them looking like that. If it weren’t for pictures to help us remember, we may possibly lose the past. But…That wasn’t going to let that stop me. I took my own birth photos for crying out loud!!!!!!! I was going to do this!

What A Run For My Money!

Prior to Ainslee making her way into this world, I was already styling her session. When she was just 5 days new, I started capturing her newborn portraits. I took it easy, and just tried one setup each day. Now, I’m not going to lie, her session was my hardest newborn session to date! She definitely gave me a run for my money! It was difficult for her to sleep around me because she just wanted to nurse. I wasn’t about to give up! I’m glad I have the patience of a saint because I captured some amazing images in her first 3 weeks of life. So…without further adieu, I present to you Ainslee Grace Cunningham.
